Farm team:
There will be a three-round off-line prospects/farm team draft each year prior to the start of the NHL season, beginning after the first season. The draft order is based on standings at the end of the regular season, not the playoffs.
Players drafted must be signed or drafted by an NHL team.
The initial farm roster will be a maximum 5 players (to accommodate trades).
The farm team roster will increase to 8 players following the second season and then cap at 8 players.
Farm teams consist of a maximum of 8 players.
Starting with the next draft in 2016 (2016-17 season), farm teams will expand to 10 players. Farm teams will expand to 12 players in 2020.
A "Farm player" is any player drafted, moved from your "Main roster" to your "Farm team" during the draft, or a player currently on another managers farm team that is acquired in trade.
Any transaction (Drafting, moving from main roster, trade, etc.) placing a farm team over the maximum, will be required to drop the necessary amount of players to be compliant.
Farm players hold a protected farm team position until they are non-eligible.
Non-eligible means:
1. The player has played in 42 or more NHL games and must be moved to the main roster (if he reaches the number during the season, the player is protected and still taking up a farm team position until the season is over).
2. A manager has renounced the farm players rights and drops him for anyone to draft, or pick up.
For example: A team is at the maximum number of farm players, but wants to draft a top prospect like Connor McDavid. So he renounces the rights to one of his current farm players, opening a spot to draft McDavid. The farm player he dropped is now available for anyone to draft if eligible (under 42 NHL games played), or pick up during the season via waivers if non-eligible (over 42 NHL games played).
Players taken in the farm draft, or farm players acquired by trade can be kept on the farm roster, or moved back and forth between the farm and main rosters.
Teams may not start a new season with players on their farm roster who have played 42 career NHL games (regular season). They must be dropped, traded, or moved to the main roster.
**Players who have played 42 or more career NHL regular season games are no longer prospects and cannot be picked in the farm draft.
Prospects: Prospects are players who have not played 42 career NHL regular season games. Players who have played 42 or more games are not prospects and cannot be taken in the farm draft.
Non-Keeper Prospects: Players picked up as FA (i.e. not taken in farm draft) who have not played at least 10 career NHL regular season games cannot be kept on the main roster at the end of a season. They must be dropped and they go into the prospect draft pool.
Moving a prospect (from roster to farm). Teams with players on their roster at the end of a season who have not played 42 career NHL games can move them from their main roster to their protected farm roster during the farm draft, using a draft pick.
Trading draft pick positions:[/b] Is allowed for the following season only. The season end with the farm draft. The new one begin after the farm draft.
IR:Players in IR slots must be moved back onto the main roster once they are no longer designated by Yahoo as injured.
Players in IR slots at the end of a season must be dropped, traded or moved into a roster slot. They cannot be carried into a new season on IR.
Divisions: All 12 teams play in the same division.
Playoffs: Top 6 teams in final rounds; top 2 teams win 1st round bye. Bottom 6 teams in consolation rounds; top 2 teams win 1st round bye. Top 4 teams for 2020.
Draft order:
Main draft: 1st season, online with order determined by Yahoo random selection (snake draft). *This draft took place September 12th, 2010*
Farm Draft (New Weighted Farm Draft): As voted on at the end of last season, beginning with the 2019 farm draft, a lottery will determine the order of the first round. All managers will have a chance at the first overall pick, but teams with the least wins will have the best odds. The remaining two rounds will be determined by the reverse order of the standings.
Farm draft (Old rule): Team finishing in 12th place after the regular season (before playoffs) picks 1st and then in turn through to team finishing 1st; repeat each round (non-snake draft).
Team names: Mgrs to choose an NHL, AHL, European, junior or college team name (past or present).
Participation: Active participation is required. The LM reserves the right to replace inactive managers.
Player status: If for any reason a player (regardless of skill level), is dropped from Yahoo's available list of players, the manager with his rights must drop him into Free agency. The player will go through our normal waiver process if he returns. There will be no option to retain rights to the player by forfeiting a #1 draft pick from the next available Farm draft.
